This summer Janet will be working in Parrsboro doing a ceramic residency at Art Lab for the months of July and August. She will be using semi-functional forms and local clay to explore textures from the environment, and will be combining these textures with her distinctive on glaze painting.

Joy Laking Gallery

A realist painter in watercolours, oils and acrylics, Joy has had national solo exhibitions including the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. An elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists, Joy paints anything that she finds beautiful. She is inspired by Nova Scotia as well as her world wanderings.

3heather lawson

Carving natural stone, heather's pieces are inspired by the ancients and influenced by subtle changes in her surroundings. Her work reveals a sense of design & technique honed over twenty years of singular focus. The work is created for both interior & exterior spaces, some particularly for gardens, another of heather’s passions.

4Danielle Sawada

Thrown Together Pottery & Art

Danielle creates one-of-a-kind functional pottery that is both beautiful and practical; some modern, some traditional—all a treasure to use and a pleasure to view. Her storefront studio also features works by fellow painters and artisans from the region. She also creates unique urns - traditional and whimisical - for people and pets. By request she will create an unfired clay urn that will dissolve in the earth, leaving no footprint.

Leonard Paul ARTventure

As a Mi'kmaq First Nation, Paul was raised in traditional ways by his father. Using watercolours, mixed media and graphite he illustrates Mi'kmaq Legends in a fantasy genre. When painting wildlife, his focus is on birds of prey.Beautiful regalia powwow dancers on commission are available. Most recently Paul has worked as an illustrator for books published by Nimbus Publisher, Portage and Main Press, and Rubicon Press.

Beautifully turned unique wood pieces range from utilitarian salad bowls to artistic vases & cremation urns. A variety of woods are used: maple, birch, ash, beech, oak, elm & locust, as well as fruit woods such as cherry, plum, apple & pear. All woods are native to Nova Scotia.

Main & Station is a multifunctional art centre located in Parrsboro’s old Post Office. This iconic red brick building with the clocktower was boarded up for 40+ years before reopening in 2013 as an artspace which offers workshops and residencies, includes exhibition space, a secondhand bookshop, and a vegetarian café.
